1000 Conversations

May 26 of each year is the National Day of Healing and Reconciliation (NDHR), a grassroots movement that focuses on healing by addressing issues that result from past injustices based on culture, religion, or race. On May 26, 2009, in partnership with the organizers of NDHR, the Legacy of Hope Foundation launched 1000 Conversations Across Canada On Reconciliation, a campaign focused on healing from the legacy of residential schools.

Our vision for this campaign is to create a national movement that will engage all Canadians in a dialogue about the history of residential schools, their resulting impacts and the need for healing and reconciliation. Our aim is to enable people to engage in a discussion on healing and reconciliation in a variety of venues such as their workplaces, around their kitchen tables, at dinner parties, in coffee shops, and in church basements. Each conversation can be registered on the website, www.1000conversations.ca, where participants will be acknowledged for their involvement in this initiative.
