100 Years of Loss in New Brunswick

Throughout May, the Legacy of Hope Foundation’s (LHF) exhibition, 100 Years of Loss – The Residential School System in Canada, will circulate to communities in New Brunswick. A related display about the Shubenacadie Residential School will also be part of the tour.

Sponsored by MAWIW’s Mi’kmaq/Maliseet Healing Network Centre, the exhibition will be on display in Elsipogtog, Miramichi and Fredericton in conjunction with private ceremonies for Survivors, Survivor advocates and healing support workers, public receptions, and educational workshops for teachers and students. Richard Kistabish, LHF’s President (and Survivor), will participate in events in Miramichi and Fredericton.

In preparation for the exhibition display and related community events, Legacy of Hope Foundation Education Officer Jane Hubbard has led a workshop to train community staff from Elsipogtog, Esgenoopetitj and the NBCC Campus about how to work with the exhibition’s companion educational resource (100 Years of Loss Edu-kit). The Edu-kit is designed for classroom use to improve awareness and understanding of the history and legacy of residential schools.
